The 18th Symposium on Entrepreneurship and Family Business was successfully held by our school online

From December 3rd to 4th, 2022, the 18th Symposium on Entrepreneurship and Family Business with the theme of "Innovation and High-quality Development of Family Business under the Challenge of Globalization" was successfully held online.


Dean Wang Fan of the School of Business, Sun Yat-sen University and Professor Cai Li of Jilin University delivered opening speeches respectively, positively affirming the practical significance and academic value of the symposium theme.

The keynote speech was delivered by Professor Zhang Yuli of Nankai University. Professor Chen Xiaohong - Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Secretary of the Party Committee of Hunan University of Technology and Business, and Honorary Dean of the Business School of Central South University, first made a report on "The Empowerment of Digital Intelligence Leads Technological Innovation and Industrial Development".

 

Professor Jia Liangding of Nanjing University, Professor Kang Rongping of Chinese Business Research Center of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Professor He Xiaogang of Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, and Professor Li Xinchun of the School of Business, Sun Yat-sen University, made keynote speeches respectively focusing on the themes of "Scenario Research and Management Knowledge Creation", "Development of Human Business Model and Family Business", "In-laws Involvement and Family Business Value" and "Founder Control, Strategy Adherence and International Entrepreneurship".

 

The keynote speeches by foreign guests were presided over by Professor Fu Hui from the School of Business, Sun Yat-sen University, Professor Zhong Jinian from Hong Kong Polytechnic University and National University of Singapore, Professor Cai Jiming from Lancaster University and University of Calgary, Professor Franz Kellermanns from University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Professor Alfredo De Massis from Free University of Bozen and Lancaster University, and Professor Fang Hanqing from Missouri University of Science and Technology, have successively carried out video theme sharing, and presented the cutting-edge theories and research progress of family business research on social connection and family business industry strategy selection, reverse retention of family business talents, future direction of family business and entrepreneurship research, key research topics of family business and based on the family business theory construction of GGR model.

A total of 123 papers were submitted to the symposium, 26 branch venues were set up, 117 group papers were reported, and more than 1,000 people watched the symposium video online. It was a symposium with wide participation and influence. The atmosphere of the branch venues was warm and the discussion was in-depth. The symposium also invited three first prize winners of Mao Lixiang Family Business Research Outstanding Achievement Award to share their papers in the report. The symposium also selected 28 excellent award-winning papers and 1 award-winning monograph.

 

This symposium also arranged a journal forum which was presided over by Professor Lin Daomi from the School of Business, Sun Yat-sen University, Editorial Director of Quarterly Journal of Management. Nankai Business Review, Quarterly Journal of Management, Foreign Economics & Management, Journal of Renmin University of China, China Economic Studies and other journals participated in the symposium, sharing the policy orientation of manuscripts review and answering relevant questions in the process of submission, which is of great significance for further promoting the research and publication of family business.

 

This symposium also held a half-day youth theme forum, and 14 youth scholars made reports at the symposium presided over by Professor Dou Junsheng of Zhejiang University and Professor Zhu Hang of the School of Business, Sun Yat-sen University, and they discussed the cutting-edge topics of inheritance and innovation of family businesses in the stage of high-quality development from multiple perspectives. Professor Li Weiwen - Associate Dean of the School of Business, Sun Yat-sen University, made a report entitled "Bifurcation Bias and Family Business Performance: A Social Classification Perspective of Distributive Justice".
